New guidance was issued by the government on Tuesday 6 April which contradicts the previous position that stated spectators would be permitted at non-elite sport events from Step Two of the roadmap (12th April onwards).
Whilst outdoor attractions like zoos and theme parks can reopen from the 12th April, and events such as boot fairs, steam rallies and food festivals can take place with up to 4,000 visitors per day, a specific ban has been applied to spectators at sport events, even at grassroots level, until 17 May.
This means that all events due to take place between 12th April and 17th May will now be run behind closed doors, and only essential personnel may attend. This change will affect the CRMC race meeting at Mallory Park on the 8th & 9th May as spectators will not now be permitted, but the meeting will go ahead behind closed doors.
Note: Circuit websites may still have ticket sales advertised until they can be updated.
Clearly, this is disappointing news for circuit owners, motorsport enthusiasts and competitors with people or teams who want to support them. Spectators will be welcome from Saturday 22nd of May within appropriate Covid guidelines.
Please check circuit websites for full details.
