RIP Jerry Summerfield

We are sorry to say that Jerry Summerfield passed away on 29th May 2026 after a short illness at the age of 80 years old.  

RIP Jerry Summerfield 

Jerry was one of three brothers, Mike, Roger and Jerry who founded Summerfield Engineering in 1967 producing Summerfield Manx Norton's and ridden with great success by the likes of Jerry himself, Colin Breeze and Lea Gourlay. Summerfield Engineering also sponsored the Summerfield National Championship, forerunner of the current ACU Classic 500 Championship. 
 
Coming so soon after the recent death of Mike Summerfield, we offer our sincere condolences to the Summerfield family and friends at this sad time.

This photo shows with all three brothers with a Manx Norton they had rebuilt for a customer. Jerry's passing marks the end of an era for Summerfield Manx Norton’s.

So very sad that Jerry has passed and yes so soon after Mike, I knew all the brothers and over the years we had great crac. I have very fond memories of the three brothers Roger Mike & Jerry along with our dear friend Gerry Webb and Sid when we all went to the 2004 North West 200 races to support a great mate Colin Breeze who was racing. there was many a night we got locked in the local pubs and was forced to drink their Guinness. One instance when I tricked three young ladies to sit on Gerry Webb's knee and make a fuss of him because I sold them the story its his birthday. I remember Jerry and Mike Summerfield laughing so very much their belly's ached, so I think on such sad occasions of Jerry Summerfield's death to remember those times of laughter and a life very much lived is important. Time to rest easy Jerry, chequed flag taken.

I worked at Summerfield Engineering from the age of 17. I have always had a passion for motorcycles and was soon involved with the Manx Norton side of the business. Some of my best working, and leisure memories are shared with the Summerfield family. Mike, Roger and Jerry gave me exceptional experience, and when myself and fellow employee Martin Price formed our own business, the brothers continued to give us outstanding support and advice, and we shared a close working relationship for many years. So sad to lose Jerry so quickly.

I had a lot of races against both Roger and Jerry and were great fun to be with on track and very good and fair riders. Mike was always lovely friendly company in the paddock. So glad to have spent a lot of my race days in the three brothers company. RIP guys.
